Biomicrite

Bioturbation is the process of the biological makeover of sediments by benthic organisms (Giere, 2009) ( Fig. 2.3 ). Benthic burrowers are the major drivers of bioturbation, especially crustaceans and annelids for macrobenthos; ostracods, nematodes, and copepods for meiofauna. Bioturbation effects can extend up to 20 cm depth in the sediments. .

Adding a prefix, he coined terms such as “biomicrite” to refer to fossils in a microcrystalline matrix. In 1974, Folk expanded the meaning of the term “micrite” to encompass all carbonate minerals measuring 1–4 μm. He also added a new term “minimicrite” for sizes less than 1 μm. In his original classification Robert L. Folk defined three main components to limestones. These are allochems, comprising various grains and particles; micrite ( micr ocrystalline calc ite mud matrix); and sparite ( spar ry calc ite cement). The main allochems are bioclasts (‘bio-’, see below), pellets (‘pel-’), intraclasts (‘intra ...The nonconventional hydrocarbon potential of the Cretaceous Colombian back-arc basin is explored taking into consideration the properties of fine-grained units, including biomicrite, marlstone, and shale, in terms of total organic carbon content, gas content, vitrinite reflectance, porosity, permeability, pyrolysis, and organic geochemistry of ...

An aphid giving viviparous birth, an unusual mode of reproduction among insects. Among animals, viviparity is development of the embryo inside the body of the mother. This is opposed to oviparity which is a reproductive mode in which females lay developing eggs that complete their development and hatch externally from the mother.

Mar 14, 2019 · biomicrite ( plural biomicrites ) ( geology) A form of limestone consisting of bioclasts in a micrite matrix. The Sichuan Basin is an oil-bearing and gas-rich basin that is also a polycyclic tectonic-sedimentary superimposed basin in southwestern China (Tian et al., 2013).The study area is located in the Southeastern Sichuan Basin (Fig. 1-a) and consists of a series of arcuate mountains with the main structural strike in the NNE direction (Zou et al., 2016).If micrite is present during deposition then it fills the spaces between the allochems and the rock will be given a name which describes the allochems in a micrite matrix. For example, a rock with fossil fragments embedded in micrite is called a "biomicrite". Biomicrite is analogous to a siliciclastic wacke, sand imbedded in a lot of matrix.
