Chevy volt wont start
T. Toasty Discussion starter · Jun 15, 2015 (Edited) Initializing... Please Wait to Shift. My 2012 Volt says this.. I can shift into all gears using the shifter, but cannot drive. Cannot move steering wheel. Radio works fine, even the AC fan is blowing. Volt drove fine last night, i fully charged it, and this morning this happened.2012 Volt won't charge. Just started last night and I can't get to a dealer until tomorrow. When I plug the car in the light on the dash stays solid amber for a few minutes, then turns off. My ChargePoint says 'charger connected, waiting for response from vehicle' until the amber light goes out. My 120V charger does the same thing.

All these factors can contribute to the problem. While a shop could check Amp draw during cranking. Starter disassembly will be required. Tinker with it yourself or find a shop that can do rebuild. If you have the issue the contacts on the shifter position sensor are pitted and corroded from the high voltage surge. The exact switch GM uses is $2.71, but GM sells if for $429. It takes 20,000 to 40,000 miles before the switch will fail. And it will fail again unless the voltage sure components, ($0.75) are installed.When General Motors launched the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid in 2010, it was heralded as a breakthrough "car of the future."
